I.
Introduction:
Why is it important for Health and
Wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically? What areas do you need to develop to achieve
the goals you have for yourself?
As a health and wellness professional it is important to have
spiritually, psychologically, and physically these aspect in your life. Showing the client that being balanced helps
keep harmony, wisdom, confidence and inner peace. Being on a journey in your own life can help
those on the journey of their life. Pour
life experiences can and do help others when they are struggling do to everyday
difficulties.
The area that would like to keep in my life is my daily
meditation. I practice it in mini
sessions but I would like to set aside time for me a full hour is the goal. It is hard for me during the summer
months. I have 3 jobs, school and 2
homes to keep up. Having me time would help me keep focused and balanced so
when I’m stress the challenge does not seem so bad. But this class has showed me how to balance
my life and manage what come in. I
enjoy gardening, crocheting, sewing, baking, canning, helping friends, and being
around children. For me these are items
that I enjoy I can do them without thinking and I am able to practice the
loving kindness learned in class.
II.
Assessment:
How have you assessed your health
in each domain? How do you score you
wellness spiritually, physically, and psychologically?
My
overall health assessment is good. I
have taken on a better way of eating and I do exercise regularly. When I have a day that is packed full of stress
I usually find myself in the garden weeding.
It seems to calm and relax me faster when I can just turn off my mind
and let my hands do the work. I am a positive personality and I enjoy being
that way. I am so much more productive
that when I’m stress and negative.
In
rating I will use 1-5 grading, 1 being low and 5 being high. In regards to my spiritual wellness I would
rate a 5. I do believe in a higher
being, I meditate and I just have to look out a window to admire all that is
around me, nature, animals, beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I don’t need a church to talk to god I just
need to sit outside or where ever and I know he is with me.
My
physical wellness would be a 3 here is where I am struggling. I feel healthy and eat and exercise. It’s
just my body is not cooperating but I am determined to have the body that I in
vision at 53 year old there will be work involved to get it but it will be
worth it. My goal is to get to a 5 and I
will succeed.
My
psychological I would have to score 5.
This is where I am opened minded, caring of others, respectful and
accepting of everyone’s situation. I never
look down or disrespect others. I treat
them the way I want to be treated. I
feel that you can learn from others and by doing so you can improve you r life
and psychological health. By accepting
others differences we are accepting out own to which helps us to not feel as if
we failed.
III. Goal Development:
List at least one goal you have for
yourself in each area, Physical, Psychological, and Spiritual.
My physical goal is to workout 30
minutes daily Monday – Friday. I have
been doing this since I started school 1 ½ yrs. I feel more energetic and
healthier. By staying on track it will
help me in succeeding the goal that I set in losing the weight and being fit.
My psychological goal is to be positive
and have compassion towards others.
Since we started the practice loving-kindness I have incorporated that
into my daily life. I practice it every
night so the next morning I am refreshed and have the loving-kindness in my
heart.
My spiritual being Catholic was a great
foundation but as I have gotten older I have learned about so many different
cultural religions. I enjoy learning
about Native American religion, and Buddhist.
I do read about them and talk to friends who practice the culture always
being aware of new cultures and accepting them and even talking away some of it
and incorporating it into my life.
IV.
Practices for personal health:
What
strategies can you implement to foster growth in each?
Some strategies I have learned are
for my physical health is I use food tracker to help keep my calories in line
and I do use journals for my exercise and a daily journal of what my day
entailed. Using my time efficiently by
making meals ahead of time helps me when time is running out. Having family and friends around when you are
struggling helps and if you falter they are there to help you up and give you
words of encouragement. I have also been
incorporating all the meditation that I learned in class this helps keeps me grounded,
focused, compassionate in my daily life.
In My spiritual life I help those
in need on a daily basis. For me that is
my way of giving back to those who may not otherwise get the help they
need. I practice meditation in my yard
so I can give the negatives of the day to mother earth and take in the positive
sun from God above. Having friends and
family around in important, you want to be able to pass on your knowledge to
those you love. For me this is done by
being that friend who is always there no matter what time or where help is need
and volunteering whenever the need arises.
My psychological is where for me it
all comes together putting in motion all that I have learned. Using meditation to calm the mind, be
focused, compassionate of others, to use the loving –kindness, to do unto
others as you want to be treated. These
are practiced daily for me they are words and actions to live by.
V.
Commitment:
How
will you assess your progress or lack of progress in the next six months? What strategies can you use to assist in
maintaining your long-term practices for health and wellness?
Commitment for me is setting goals
and working hard to be successful at them.
The goals for my weight and general health are to track my progress and
keep journaling and make sure they are updated daily. Doing meditation so I stay focused and
positive always thanking God for what I have and the day that he let me
experience. I have great friends and
family who are always here for me. We
support each other which for me let me know that we all give a part of
ourselves to others in a time of need.
I have made a bulletin board of my
goals through pictures and phrases and pictures of those dear to me. This helps me stay focused on my goals and as
I complete one another one takes its place.
By having goals and completing them and placing new goals in you are
always aware of what you have and what you are working toward.
It’s great to have friends and family support to meet your needs and fitness goals. Are you going to journey your progress on a calendar or notebook? It really helps to track your progress daily as you mentioned. Besides class audios, have you found other interesting activities you can participate in? I found iTunes has a great list of meditation audios.
